Brookton is situated south east of Perth some 138 kilometres from the state capital, with a relatively small population of around 600.
John Seabook was the first European settler in the area around 1846, and built & named his homestead ‘Brookton”. Further population did not really occur until the 1860’s, although itinerant sandalwood cutters were frequenting the district. The townsite of Brookton was originally named “Seabrook”, however, the name was changed in 1899 due to confusion with another Seabrook nearer to York.
Wheat & sheep quickly became the main farming activities, with the advent of the Great Southern railway line in 1889, Brookton’s future was assured. In 1940 a bulk wheat bin was constructed and this immediately became an important piece of infrastructure in the district.
