Due to a lack of potable water, the area struggled until the advent of the crayfishing industry. The townsite of Jurien (the “Bay” was added later), was gazette in 1956. Today Jurien Bay boasts a multi million dollar crayfishing industry exporting to destinatinos across the globe.
