Situated 210 kilometers south of Perth, Donnybrook district was first settled in the 1840’s with the townsite of Donnybrook first gazetted in 1897.
Gold was discovered just to the south west of the townsite in 1899 by Richard Hunter, leading to the listing of the “Donnybrook Goldfields Ltd” company being listed on the London stock exchange. The gold rush fever was short-lived, and by around 1903 most activity had ceased. Despite several minor flurries, gold has remained a very small part of the history of Donnybrook. Of far greater importance to the district has been the farming and orchards. Blessed with good loam soils and rainfall, the Donnybrook district boasts a fine history of growth in both of these areas.
Today Donnybrook is the home of one of the largest children’s fun parks in Australia. This is made more important as the whole of the park has free entry.
