Narembeen is situated almost due east of Perth some 286 kilometers distant in the central Wheatbelt District. With a population of approximately 600, Narembeen is considered to be a larger community centre in the district. The district was surveyed in 1836 by John Septimus Roe, and by the 1850,s graziers and sandalwood cutters frequented the area. In 1901 the rabbit proof fence was built just to the east of today’s Narembeen townsite. In the early 1900’s settlers purchased land just east of town at a place called Emu Hill.
This quickly became a township, however, the locals opposed the building of a hotel in the town. A Perth businessman purchased land in nearby Narembeen and built a hotel, this proving to be the eventual death knell of Emu Hill. In 1922, the township of Narembeen was officially recognized. Today, Narembeen is home to a large farming community relying on wheat & sheep.
